Since born in Puerto Rico, she tirelessly made up dances she imagined. She began formal dance training with Nana Hudo, Awilda Sterling, Petra Bravo, among others, eventually becoming a member of Ballets de San Juan, PR. In 1991 she moved to Caracas, Venezuela where she joined Danzahoy, contemporary dance company. With this company she trained in diverse froms, from tai chi, to capoeira, to acrobatics, to yoga -practice she took on since. In 1994 she moved to New York to study new forms in dance. She earned her BA from Hunter College. From 1995 onwards she joined Merián Soto and Pepatián as a company member and collaborator. In 2000 she began to teach yoga regularly in her hOMe studio, NY. In 2003 she became a certified massage therapist and yoga instructor. She received a Future Faculty Fellowship, year 2004 to continue her graduate studies at Temple University. Upon graduation she received a Vernick Transformation Award in recognition of her artistic growth. Segarra taught at Temple University, as well as in Bryn Mawr College, Philadelphia, PA from 2005 until 2008.
She currently lives and works in
Puerto Rico.
