no e[s] danza
es la propuesta artística de Noemí Segarra
colaboramos e improvisamos.
el cuerpo es el medio.
a veces sola
a veces interactuando con otras disciplinas
siempre en búsqueda de un nuevo lenguaje
fundamentado en la experiencia directa
o la presencia del cuerpo.

no e[s] danza
we collaborate and improvise.
our medium is the body.
Noemí Segarra began dancing at an early age in Puerto Rico. Among many dance makers and educators, Nana Hudo, Awilda Sterling, Petra Bravo in particular left an imprint on Segarra's initial definition and formation. In 1994 she moved to New York City, and from 1995 onwards, she joined Merián Soto and Pepatián as a company member and collaborator.
Since 2004, Segarra has made interdisciplinary solo work, often collaboratively, as no e[s] danza. Rooted in the experience of the body exploring alternate states of consciouness negotioated in front of live audiences, no e[s] danza departs from dance as-we-know-it in search for other possibilities that embody presence. Segarra has shown her solo and collaborative work in venues throughout Philadelphia, NYC, Canada and Puerto Rico. Since 2009 she lives and makes work in Puerto Rico, collaborating often with Polidesto.
Segarra earned her BA from Hunter College and MFA from Temple University. She has taught at Temple University, Bryn Mawr College and at the University of Puerto Rico.
